On Air

Lou Baxter

The newest member of the LECOM Radio team is probably the most recognizable!

For over 40 years, Lou Baxter has been a familiar face on Erie television. Before his semi-retirement in 2021, Lou was News Director of JET 24 and FOX 66. Prior to that he worked as a TV anchor and reporter. These days, he works on special projects for the local ABC and FOX affiliates.

His broadcasting career, however, began in radio! Nearly 50 years ago Lou launched his career working at Erie’s WWYN radio when he was a 17-year-old senior at Erie’s Academy High School. He then moved on to stints at WQLN-FM and WRIE, working as both a radio reporter and disc jockey. His dream to make broadcasting a career came in the 1960’s, after peering into the studio window at WJET Radio and seeing the one and only "Johnny Holiday" at work. What a thrill it’s been working with Johnny in both his TV career, and now at WMCE LECOM Radio.

The veteran broadcast journalist, a graduate of Edinboro State College, has enjoyed reporting stories from the White House and Capitol Hill; interviewing presidents, governors, celebrities and local officials. He also reported from Hawaii on the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, on the 1985 Albion tornado, 911, and the infamous Erie Pizza Bomber murder case.

But his first love is playing the soundtrack of your life! The music of his era and yours, classic hits from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Feel free to reach out to him on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/lou.baxter.3

Commander Bill

As a retired law enforcement professional, I spent many years on a radio…but of a different type! But all of those midnight shifts in the police car gave me a deep appreciation for all of this great music. After retiring I wanted to become a handsome billionaire but obviously that just didn’t work out. So here I am…and very grateful to be playing some of the best music on the planet!

Dr. Denny Woytek

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on May 24, 1949. Lived most of my childhood on the beaches of Presque Isle and ‘spinning the hits’ at radio stations including the one I built in my basement. The broadcast range was only a few blocks but I kept the neighbors entertained. I had my first paying radio job at WJET.

In 1967 I joined the Navy to be a photographer in 1967 only to find myself as a Seabee going to Vietnam. After serving in Quang Tri and Dong Ha with CBMU 301 and building an Armed Forces Radio station in Quang Tri, I was transferred to Alaska. I spent three years in the frozen tundra of Adak Island at AFRTS as a disc jockey, program director, TV newscaster and movie host.

After discharge from the Navy I returned to Erie to work on radio and attended Mercyhurst College. I left college to take a full-time position at a 5,000-watt radio station as the wild-and-wacky morning announcer. I lived three years in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan near Mackinac Island. Moved back to Pennsylvania and spent 13 years as a morning man in Franklin, PA.

Moved to Pittsburgh in 1989 and I was a freelance Videographer, TV producer. I returned to finish my Bachelors degree in Communications at Duquesne in 1995. I worked at WDUQ as a part-time host for jazz, I completed my MS in Multimedia Technology at Duquesne. In February 2009 I completed my Ph.D. in Rhetoric with a dissertation on how Vietnam veterans are using technology to take private memory and make it public.

I was an Assistant Professor for the Journalism Multimedia Technology Department at Duquesne University and taught courses including Introduction to Multimedia Technology, Cross-Platform Authoring, Digital Imaging, Multimedia Production, Digital Videography, Photojournalism, Visual Communications, Digital Cinematography, Photojournalism, 3-D Modeling and Animation and Computer Graphic Design. I retired from Duquesne in 2016.

I have won 12 Telly Awards, one for a program called “Pennsylvania Adventures”, “A Journey of Faith” a documentary on the town and people of Medjugorje, a documentary on the visit of the Pope John Paul to the United States. I also was awarded Tellys for documentaries on John Gibson of the Negro baseball league, “We are All Immigrants”, “The Seabees Return to Vietnam”, also awarded a Pixie Award for animation.

I continue enjoying photography and my radio roots playing the music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s

Terri Bohen

The youngest of 4 children, Terri was born and raised on the shores of Lake Erie in Erie, PA. She spent many of her formative years babysitting for the venerable Captain Dan’s family. It was while doing the morning announcements over the loud speaker in high school that Terri first got hooked on broadcasting. After college, Terri was reunited with Captain Dan as they woke up listeners on The Breakfast Club for 13 years.

A career change was in store as Terri went into the classroom, teaching elementary English Language Learners whose families relocated to Erie from all over the globe. Terri and her husband Joe relocated themselves five years ago, giving up the shoveling for the sun and sand of Florida. She is now LOVING teaching 3rd graders, kayaking, watching for her favorite manatees, and spending weekends with listeners.

Bill Page

As a lifelong Erie native, my heart and soul have always been about the music. Whether it has been the thousands of live Mobile DJ events I’ve conducted over decades, or traveling up and down the local radio dial throughout the 1980s, mixing great sounds, good times and community involvement has been the soundtrack of my life.

When I’m not in the studio on air, or creating great vibes at weddings, retirements, business
celebrations, or hallmark events in and around Erie, you’ll find me soaking up the beauty of Presque Isle State Park on a daily run, or lending a hand to local fundraisers—especially those which benefit non-profits, veterans organizations, kids and animals. My rescue pup Cassie is often by my side when we enjoy some of the great outdoor activities northwestern Pennsylvania has to offer year-round like camping, hiking, skiing, and kayaking.

Providing great music and light-hearted entertainment has been the driving force of my professional career. What could possibly be better than greeting every new day with a great tune in your back pocket and a smile in your voice?

Internationally in Canada and South America as well. Chances are, you’re heard him in the last couple of

Ron Arlen

Back in the 50’s, when I was a kid, my dad won’t allow rock and roll to be played in the house. My older brother
had a radio hidden in his room and once in a while I was able to listen in. That’s how it all began. A few years later,
with the help of a small transistor radio, I listened not only to the music but to the announcers on my favorite station.
I love the music of the 60’s and 70’s and I thought the on air personalities made listening to the radio fun and
exciting. It was something I wanted to be a part of.
I got my first paying job in radio in 1973. I worked at a station in a small, southern New Hampshire town doing the
6 to midnight shift.
In 1974, I moved to Franklin, PA. I again worked 6 PM to midnight. There, not only did I get the opportunity to play
the most popular music of the day, I learned to write bits, experimented with ideas, tried to emulate my favorite
announcers and honed my vocal talent. In those days, small market radio was the best place to learn and grow.
Unfortunately, the people coming up today don't always have the luxury of an open, creative environment where
they can really discover their strengths and develop their talents.
Jamestown, New York was my next stop. I'm originally from Buffalo, being so close to home was great. My stay in
Chautauqua County lasted 13 months.
January, 1977, I moved back to Buffalo. I landed a position on WKBW, a legendary top 40 station with 50,000 watts
of power. It was a real thrill to work for the station that I grew up listening to.
October, 1979, Tom Barney hired me to work as the midday announcer on WJET, when it was still an AM station. I
became one of the "Music People" on Jet 14. That’s where I met Johnny Holiday. Erie became home for my wife
Lyn and me for the next 38 years.
I jumped over to WCCK late in 1984. I was at K-104, for a little over two years.
My next stop was WXKC. When they hired me at Classy 100, in September 1987, I said that it would be my last
radio job. It almost was. Nat the Hat was there at the beginning…so was Terri Bohen and Captain Dan. My stay at
WXKC lasted thirty years. I retired from radio in 2017. My retirement only lasted 7 years. The music of the 60’s,
70’s and 80’s drew me back. To be back on the air in Erie, was also a part of the draw. It just felt right…a natural fit.
Thanks Lecom.
